One weekend in May, lost in the middle of breathtaking nature of Dalarna County in Sweden where a circle of women (& one man) met to create community and learn together about magic of yoga practice, meditation and moments of spirituality from wonderful Sandra Lones.
I was there to document the full 4 days of the retreat. I got to spend time directly with the attendees at the farm where it all took place. I talked and connected with all of them on such a profound level; something that definitely significantly contributed to being able to capture so much of that authentic magic that was happening.
I feel like it was because of me being a part of the community that the attendees found it so much easier to surrender to my camera without feeling intruded. And in the end, it wasn't just me documenting them. It was us together creating the magic that you can see below.
On the Mat
Most of the time we spent in the practice hall where retreat attendees got to practice, learnt new things and experimented. It was so worth it documenting all those special moments when new milestones were reached, new boundaries pushed and avenues of their own bodies explored. The pure joy of being able to prove to yourself that you can do something seeped through into the photos too.
Having something like this documented does most justice to you and your retreat because it's a direct evidence and the best manifestation of what you do and offer.
Out in the Nature
I loved documenting the hike that Sandra regularly organises for every group that comes to her Dalarna retreat. Great conversations, silly play with Sandra's puppy Miles and a few calm sunny moments on the top of the hill only strengthened the community feeling.
Relax & Connect
Every day after the practice, the group had the chance to continue bond while enjoying the health benefits of the sauna and dipping their toes in the cold stream afterwards.
Documenting those special moments of joys and shock of the cold water was certainly a magic not to be missed!
Just imagine having these visuals to share when organising a retreat full of wonderful experiences and showing your audience what unique adventure awaits them.
Important "In-Betweens"
All 4 days of the retreat were eventful. The magic didn't disperse even after all the activities. The enlightening conversations and joy continued well into the night, life stories were shared over the lovely meals prepared by Sandra's partner Martin and I was there to document it all.
The Magic of The Venue
Documenting the details of the venue where your retreats takes place is always an important element in photographing all destination retreats.
You will want to be able to paint a proper picture of that incredible place your attendees are about to spend their time in and nothing does justice better than storytelling photos.
